Jacob & Co - Astronomia Sky
Platinum Edition AstroSky.
The birthday season continues, and this time I've opted for Jacob & Co's Astronomia Sky watch, which is even crazier. This tourbillon watch is indeed quite bold, not only in size and volume, but mechanically, there is a lot going on inside it.
Obviously this isn't your most discreet watch, but I think it's cool that someone dared to produce such a quirky timepiece, another example of proper watchmaking creativity and craftsmanship.
The movement is made up of no fewer than 400 parts, and despite the intense activity going on inside, the watch has a 60-hour power reserve.
Jacob & Co. presents the Astronomia Solar watch
Maison Jacob & Co. spent 2 years developing the Astronomia Solar watch before presenting it at the beginning of the year at the Baselworld 2017 World Fair, the most important conference for the watch and jewelry industry.
A true marvel of creativity and ingenuity, Astronomia Solar presents for the first time on its dial the 8 planets of the solar system - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - with the Sun at the center, in a 1.5 carat and 288 faceted citrine beautifully represented in the "Jacob Cut®" cut. The hand-engraved globe rotates on its axis every 60 seconds and the dial rotates every 10 minutes. The other 7 planets are placed on an aventurine base that rotates in opposite directions but travels both ways at the exact same speed, resulting in a time-lapse and stylized view of the solar system. Note that the reduced size allows for new features and faster rotation through the new home interface. However, despite its small diameter (34.55 mm), the Astronomia Solar contains 439 components – excluding precious and semi-precious stones – i.e. far more than other Astronomia models. Astronomia Solar... a true feat of combining high-end Swiss watchmaking tradition with all the talent of Jacob Arabo.
